BED Stage 1

Follow us on our build of the first Bed unit - a simple 6m (12ft) high cube shipping container converted into a stylish and functional two-bedroom pod—a compact, eco-friendly solution to modern living. Shipping containers are not just robust and durable; they also offer incredible flexibility for creative repurposing. By utilizing their structural integrity and modular nature, we are creating a space-efficient 2 bedroom solution that combines practicality with contemporary aesthetics.  For this module we plan a bunk bed side on the left and a bunk with foldable couch and TV room on the right.

The first stage of this transformation begins with careful planning and design. After selecting a high-quality, well-maintained container (single use - classed as New), we assess the structural elements to ensure it's ready for conversion. This includes inspecting for any rust, dents, or structural compromises and making necessary reinforcements. Our team then maps out the interior layout, factoring in optimal use of space. Each Bed Pod  is designed to maximize comfort, incorporating double insulated walls for climate control (spray foam and batts) ventilation, thoughtfully placed windows for natural light, and clever storage solutions to keep the footprint minimal yet functional. Although cladding is optional, this unit has been wrapped and top hats installed prior to finishing in nail strip metal cladding.

Initial modifications have commenced - Cutting openings for doors and windows is a critical step using engineered plans to ensure structural stability. Most openings in this unit are reinforced with 50x50 SHS.  Windows are BAL29 double glazed with sash openings at requisite sizing to ensure adequate ventilation.  Flooring is next, ensuring the bamboo floor is either removed or kept, screwed and sealed, covered with yellow tongue ply and then cement sheeting.

In this unit we are crafting trademark boxwood ceiling-suspended beds with full uninterrupted (no central post) under bed space for luggage storage.

First fix (rough-in) electrical has also been installed at this stage, setting the foundation for a fully equipped and liveable space. By the end of this phase, the container has already begun its exciting transformation into a cozy, modern two-bedroom pod, ready for the next stages of plaster, tiling, cabinetry, finishing touches and customization. Stay tuned as we bring this innovative Pod to life!
