Casa L was built in 2014 in Funes, Argentina. The home, made from 2 recycled ship containers, is designed by the designer Fabián Alegre, the architect Paulina Lluch and the accountant Mauricio Vago. They all reside in the city of Funes as well. The owner is a friend of the designer.

"The stress generated by being onsite does not exist in this type of construction. It is known in advance that it will be delivered within 90 days and at an already established price. The only thing needed is the clothes because it is already equipped with the complete furniture," said Alegre.

 Build Method

It’s made from two 20ft (6M) High Cube ISO shipping containers. The container system allows for multiple configurations, in this case an L shape which promotes the use of the central deck and outdoor living.  In the future, adjoining or height modules can be added.

"We are not very clear if there is a profile of people for this type of house, but we do know that it is for those who want a change and experience new things. It does not come to replace anything; It is one more proposal that adds to the many existing ones", highlighted the builder.

Container modifications are relatively minimal with most windows set at 600 in height, keeping build costs lower.  This house also has a shallow environmental impact, consumes little electricity, is insulated with hermetic materials, and ceramic-based paints make it more thermal. It is raised from the ground on 40-centimeter piles. It allows the average runoff and passage of water, maintains thermal insulation, and preserves it from humidity.

It is an artisan project financed by us, and that has the value of an expensive car. Ideal for couples or single people. It is also an alternative as a barbecue, a guest house, and parents have even come who have large lots and were interested in the idea of building an independent space for their teenage children", commented the promoter.

 Interbode Thoughts

This build is notable for its punchy use of the Tiffany Blue and its use of the white flat bar steel to create high set wrap around windows on the bedroom wing.   Casa L is very inexpensive solution for individuals or a young couple and most suited to warmer climates. It is intimate, and its eco-friendly qualities create a modern aesthetic. The budget for this home is $50K USD.
