Austin House is a stunning example of modern cargotecture, showcasing how shipping containers can be transformed into stylish, functional, and sustainable living spaces. Designed and built by Patrice Nichole Rios, this project highlights the seamless blend of industrial elements with contemporary residential design, reflecting Austin’s innovative and creative spirit.

Build Method

Austin House is built using repurposed shipping containers, meticulously arranged to create a spacious and inviting home. The design incorporates open-plan living areas with large floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing for an abundance of natural light while maintaining privacy.

The exterior retains elements of the original container aesthetic, softened by warm timber accents and thoughtfully curated landscaping. Inside, the home boasts high-end finishes, including polished concrete floors, modern cabinetry, and custom-built furniture that maximises space efficiency.

One of the standout features of Austin House is its commitment to sustainability. The home is equipped with energy-efficient insulation, rainwater harvesting systems, and solar panels, ensuring reduced environmental impact without compromising comfort. The modular construction also allows for future expansion, making it an adaptable living solution for changing needs.

Interbode Thoughts

Austin House exemplifies how cargotecture can be both practical and beautiful. The combination of industrial and modern materials results in a home that feels contemporary yet warm, perfectly suited for urban living. We appreciate the attention to detail in the interior finishes, as well as the commitment to sustainability, making this project a standout in Austin’s growing container home movement.

It’s a space that embraces minimalism while offering maximum functionality—an inspiring take on shipping container architecture that we wouldn’t mind calling home ourselves.
