Chalet Chemin Brochu is a striking example of how shipping container architecture can be transformed into a warm and inviting retreat. Designed by Pierre Morency Architecte, this contemporary chalet in Beaulac-Garthby, Canada, demonstrates a seamless fusion of industrial aesthetics with the comfort of a traditional holiday home.

Build Method

The chalet is constructed using repurposed shipping containers, arranged to create a functional and spacious interior while maintaining a compact footprint. Elevated off the ground on steel supports, the structure reduces its environmental impact and provides enhanced insulation.

One of the standout features of the design is the extensive use of floor-to-ceiling windows, which flood the interiors with natural light and frame breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The use of timber throughout the interiors creates a warm and cosy atmosphere, contrasting beautifully with the rugged exterior.

A large wooden deck extends from the main living area, providing an ideal outdoor space to enjoy the natural surroundings. The design also incorporates energy-efficient solutions, including high-performance insulation and passive heating strategies, making it a comfortable year-round retreat.

Interbode Thoughts

Chalet Chemin Brochu is a masterclass in transforming shipping containers into a high-end, design-conscious getaway. The clever interplay of materials, the striking connection to nature, and the innovative use of space all contribute to making this chalet a standout example of cargotecture.

We particularly appreciate the seamless blend of modern industrial elements with the warmth of natural materials, creating a unique yet welcoming retreat. The thoughtful integration of large openings and outdoor living spaces ensures that guests can fully embrace the beauty of the Canadian wilderness while enjoying the comforts of contemporary architecture.
