Escape Den is one of the true greats. The refreshing, open-air structure with a totally unique layout is found in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Tanjim Haque commissioned Architects Kazi Fida Islam, Md. Abdul Awyal, Sumaiya Shameem, Mousumi Kabir, Irtefa Iradat from River & Rain Limited to repurpose parts of four shipping containers into an Escape Den for Tanjim and family.
“To create a subtle experience of one’s being and non-being at the same moment, the project adorns emptiness with grace, the designers write about the Escape Den. “Space here is not stagnant.”
Build Method
The three-storied structure is comprised of 4 x 40ft (12M) High Cube ISO shipping containers supported in a lattice of heavy industrial looking I-beams.
On the ground floor are the kitchen and dining area with a wide balcony sheltered by the top level bedroom; the offset mid-level glass-encased living room (very cool) occupies the second level, and the two bedrooms are located directly above the kitchen on the uppermost level, which was created by simply joining two containers together. The home also has 1.5 bathrooms.
Escape Den is accentuated by multiple decks, terraces and floor-to-ceiling glass walls that give occupants the feeling of being indoors and outdoors at the same time, making it perfect for beach locations or warmer climates.
Interbode Thoughts
Escape Den may well be Interbode’s favourite design. From its 360 degree delivery of industrial form, airy elevations and just outright challenging of our view of normal, it is an object of proper cargotecture envy. It’s also listed on Airbnb, so if you are looking for an escape from the urban life, the Escape Den is currently available for rent at USD $1500 per night!

Grillagh Water House, is sited on Banks of the ‘Grillagh River’ to locals known as Pixies Paradise. It's owner is a young Architect Patrick Bradley and he was recently featured on the channel 4 show “Grand Designs”. This design has quickly become a symbol for Cargotecture and has inspire many to join the following. Patrick Bradley, a countryman and an Architect, had a vision to build a modern farmhouse on this own farm under local legislation allowing farms to build on buildings on their land. Price played a large part in Patrick's decision to convert the shipping containers in to a home.
